Texas Governor Candidate Warns of Power and Water Crisis - Urges Immediate Community Action

Urgent Call to Action from Jenn Mack Raphoon

In a poignant address, Jenn Mack Raphoon, an Independent candidate for Governor of Texas, has issued a pressing warning to Texans regarding the impending challenges faced by the state’s power and water resources. As projected by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the reserve margins are anticipated to grow increasingly tight, while the Coastal Bend region's water reservoirs are reaching critical lows. Raphoon emphasizes the urgency of immediate action, expressing, "We are the People. We govern ourselves. The time to prepare is now — don't wait for the government."

Deteriorating Reserves and Critical Shortages

According to ERCOT's December 2025 Capacity, Demand and Reserves report, the power grid is expected to maintain adequate standards under normal conditions through summer 2026. However, concerns mount as these reserves could dwindle substantially by 2027, influenced by a confluence of factors such as extreme summer heatwaves, escalating data center loads, delays in equipment availability, and diminished renewable energy output during evening hours. These factors could rapidly escalate into Energy Emergency Alerts and possibly result in rolling blackouts by the summer months of June through September 2026, particularly during peak danger in July and August.

Meanwhile, in the Coastal Bend area, including cities like Corpus Christi, water levels in crucial reservoirs are alarming. Lake Corpus Christi is currently at a mere 9% capacity, while Choke Canyon is even lower, hovering around 8%. Projections indicate a potential Level 1 Water Emergency by May 2026, mandating significant cuts to water use for residents if drought conditions persevere.

The Expansion of Data Centers and its Impact

In her address, Raphoon highlights the rapid proliferation of data centers, primarily located in rural and exurban regions such as Bastrop County, Hood County, Hays County, and various communities in the Permian Basin. These centers, while integral to today’s technological landscape, are posing significant challenges. They are converting agricultural land, drawing vast amounts of groundwater for cooling, and contributing to increased demands on the power grid with a shocking forecast that water consumption may skyrocket from 25 billion gallons per year to a staggering 161 billion gallons.

Raphoon remarks, "Texas doesn't live in 'normal conditions.' Whether it's a heatwave, supply chain disruptions, or unexpected surges in demand, any one of these elements can create real strain on our resources. Prepared communities stand a better chance than those caught off guard."

A Call for Community Preparedness

The essence of Raphoon's message revolves around two key themes: preparedness and community engagement. She encourages Texans to reinforce community ties, prioritize family and faith, and commence immediate low-cost preparations, including water storage, assembling 72-hour emergency kits, auditing energy consumption, cultivating local food sources, and forming neighborhood support teams.

Specific areas of focus include:
  • - Coastal Bend / Corpus Christi for immediate water conservation efforts;
  • - Rural and exurban data-center zones (Bastrop, Hood, Hays, and the Permian Basin) to enhance power and water resiliency;
  • - Major metropolitan areas (Houston, DFW, San Antonio, Austin) for power resilience strategies.

Raphoon eloquently encapsulates her approach by referencing Texas’s historical self-reliance, asserting, "Ordinary men and women built this state without waiting for perfect leadership. We do not need a governor's title to act like one." In line with this ethos, she motivates Texans by quoting President Herbert Hoover: "When common men rise with uncommon courage, no entity, no matter how mighty can stand in their way."

As an additional element to boost community spirit, Raphoon has called for a three-day statewide prayer and fast leading into Easter, inviting all Texans, regardless of political affiliations, to reflect and strengthen communal bonds during these uncertain times.

A Vision for a Resilient Texas

Raphoon emphasizes the paramount importance of immediate action, highlighting, "We are the government's primary revenue source and its genuine source of power. The window for preparation is limited; it’s time for tangible action to ensure our households and neighborhoods navigate forthcoming challenges with minimal disruption. Texans have always looked after one another, and it’s crucial we begin our preparations months ahead of any potential crises."

With a focus on restoring governance to the people and addressing substantial threats to Texas's way of life, property, and individual rights, Jenn Mack Raphoon is poised to make significant strides in her gubernatorial campaign as Texas prepares for significant trials ahead.
