Financial Executives International Launches New Media Finance Section
On October 1, 2026, Financial Executives International (FEI) officially unveiled its Media Finance Section, becoming the first industry-specific segment within the organization. This section provides a dedicated space for members of the Media Financial Management Association (MFM) offering specialized resources, programming, and peer networks tailored for financial leaders in media and entertainment.
The initiative follows a merger approved by MFM members on July 15, 2026, which was facilitated through comprehensive evaluations and endorsements by both organizations. MFM, which has been operating since 1961, boasts around 1,200 financial and business executives spanning various sectors of media, including broadcasting, streaming, and digital content. This merger is set to enhance the support network for these professionals, allowing them to address emerging financial challenges in a rapidly evolving industry.
According to Andrej Suskavcevic, CAE, President and CEO of FEI, the financial landscape in media is encountering dilemmas that many corporate finance sectors are just beginning to face. These include complexities in bundled revenue streams, the valuation of content, and the integration of artificial intelligence in financial processes. By establishing a dedicated section for media finance, FEI aims to connect these experts with their peers from different industries while simultaneously incorporating their specialized insights into the greater financial community.
Features of the New Section
1.
Dedicated Media Finance Hub: The section provides a central platform for media-specific content, programming, research, and networking opportunities.
2.
Access to Comprehensive FEI Membership: All former MFM members are now granted full membership to FEI, which includes enhanced career services, professional development, and access to publications from the Financial Education & Research Foundation (FERF).
3.
Local Chapter Network: For the first time, MFM members will benefit from FEI's local chapter network, fostering geographic connections in addition to industry-specific relationships.
4.
Continuation of Existing Programming: Vital programming such as the Financial Leaders Forum and Executive Summit will remain operational, enhanced by the larger organization's resources and professional voice.
Joseph Annotti, Executive Director of FEI’s Media Finance Section, emphasized the value of maintaining the integrity of the MFM community while strengthening the breadth of programming. He noted, "Our members were clear about what they wanted their community intact and their programming stronger, not smaller. That is what today delivers."
Importance of the Media Finance Section
The resonance of this shift is apparent, particularly as finance teams in media and entertainment grapple with considerable structural changes. Revenue models are transitioning towards bundles and intermediates rather than direct transactions, alongside shifting content values influenced by distribution strategies. These challenges are increasingly prevalent in various sectors, as businesses pivot from singular product sales to subscription-based models.
By embedding media finance into a broader community of financial executives, FEI fosters a vital cross-industry exchange of knowledge and expertise, benefitting both media finance professionals and the wider corporate finance landscape. This initiative not only promises to amplify insights and experiences but also ensures that emerging trends in reporting and control are shared amongst the full FEI membership.
