Pal System's New Initiative: The 'Onigiri Good' Action
Pal System Cooperative Union, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has introduced a wonderful initiative named the "Onigiri Good" action, which focuses on promoting rice consumption and enhancing Japan's food self-sufficiency rate. This program is part of Pal System's sustainable action plan titled "Towards a Better Tomorrow, Going Beyond," aimed at raising awareness about the value of rice in our daily lives while supporting local children's cafes through rice donations.
What is the 'Onigiri Good' Action?
With the slogan “Eat and Smile, Grip with Comfort,” the "Onigiri Good" action encourages participants to enjoy delicious rice and experience the joy of eating. The campaign will feature a variety of engaging events and online activities designed to showcase the tastiness of rice while encouraging community participation.
Pal System aims for a significant impact by striving for 10,000 actions, which will result in the donation of one ton of rice to local children’s cafes. These donations will benefit children’s cafes and other community food initiatives across 12 prefectures, where participants will receive Pal System's fresh, locally sourced rice.
Details about the action and support programs will be officially announced on June 18, coinciding with National Onigiri Day through a dedicated special page.
First Initiative: Community Engagement via 'Palmo!'
The initial campaign under the "Onigiri Good" action revolves around the Pal System's unique community, "Palmo!" which brings together users to share their experiences related to food and lifestyle. Participants can join the initiative simply by posting photos of their onigiri (rice balls) along with related stories and using the hashtag "#おにぎりgood".
As a reward for their participation, all contributors will earn 30 Palmo points, which can be redeemed for purchases through the Pal System. Additionally, three lucky participants will win popular "salmon flakes" used as onigiri filling through a raffle.
The contributions made via "Palmo!" will count towards the overall action and ultimately lead to the donation of rice to children’s cafes, reinforcing the connection between community support and food enjoyment.
