A New Horizon for Theater: Seminar Series Launch
The world of theater is about to witness a significant intellectual event, as the Theater Workshop, led by
Masahide Ito, unveils its latest seminar series titled
“Before the Curtain Rises”. This project brings together a panel of key industry figures to discuss the future and potential of theatrical spaces. Scheduled for
November 13, 2025, at the
P.O. Minami Aoyama Hall in
Tokyo, this inaugural session promises to be an enriching experience for theater enthusiasts, professionals, and creatives alike.
The seminar will be hosted by two prominent figures:
Miho Nakai, a well-known television announcer, and
Kazuhisa Tobe, an accomplished director and playwright. They will guide discussions and present insights that aim to redefine our understanding of theater. The guest speaker for this first installment will be
Tomoko Shinohara, a renowned theater producer and CEO of Village Inc., who has been instrumental in expanding the possibilities of theatrical spaces through her work with the famous
Shinkansen Theater Company.
Tomoko Shinohara has been a significant force in the theater scene since she joined
Shinkansen in
1988 as a costume staff member, following her passion inspired by a costume show held by
Noriko Ogata. Over the years, she has developed from a production associate into a successful producer, fostering an environment for creativity and collaboration in the arts. Her wealth of experience spans
37 years with Shinkansen, and she is excited to share her insights on how the company has continuously expanded what a theater can accomplish.
This seminar is not just for theater professionals; it aims to draw interest from all corners of the community — including theatrical enthusiasts, urban development specialists, and students of performing arts. Participants will have the opportunity to glean new perspectives on how theatrical experiences can evolve in a rapidly changing world. The discussion will delve into pivotal questions about the essence of a theater, engaging with topics such as urban space utilization and the cultural roles theaters play in our lives.
During the
90-minute session, attendees can expect engaging conversations surrounding how the interactions between the performing arts and urban environments can foster greater community connections and inspire future productions. This will be a unique opportunity to collaborate in envisioning the future of theaters, exploring both the creative processes behind productions and the physical spaces they inhabit.
Participants at this event will not only listen but engage with the ideas presented, creating a dynamic atmosphere that encourages collaboration and innovation. The event is set to begin at
7 PM, following an opening at
6:30 PM, and will feature no intermissions, allowing for a streamlined discussion. Tickets are priced at
¥3,500 (including tax) and can be purchased through the event’s official link.
