Tokyo's 2024 Food Safety Forum: Navigating Health Food Choices
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government hosts an annual event focused on food safety known as the Tokyo Food Safety Forum. This year, the forum is themed around
health foods, aiming to create a platform where residents, businesses, and governmental bodies can exchange information and ideas on maintaining safe food practices.

The 2024 Forum will take place on
January 28th, 2024 (Wednesday), from
2 PM to 4 PM at the
Tokyo Health Safety Research Center located in Shinjuku-ku, Hyakunincho. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with experts and fellow attendees in discussions about effective ways to choose and utilize health foods, an area that many consumers often find confusing.
Expert Presentations
The session will kick off with two key presentations:
- - Keynote Address 1: "Building an Effective Relationship with Health Foods" by Keizo Umekaki, a former professor at Showa Women’s University, who will share insights on how to incorporate health foods into daily life effectively.
- - Keynote Address 2: "Consumer Psychology and Risks Associated with Health Foods" presented by Nanae Tanemura, an associate professor at Fukushima University, who will delve into the hidden risks of health foods and the psychology of consumer choices.
Interactive Discussion
Following the presentations, an engaging discussion session titled "Let’s Discuss: What to Do with Health Foods?" will be led by
Yoko Tobe, a consumer lifestyle advisor. Panelists will include Keizo Umekaki and Nanae Tanemura, who will respond to questions and share their insights on navigating health food choices in various scenarios.
Participation Details
Participation is free, with a limited capacity of
50 attendees. If the number of registrations exceeds the available slots, a lottery will be conducted. Interested individuals must register by
January 19th, 2024, through the online application form available at
Tokyo Forum Registration. Results of the lottery will be communicated via email by
January 23rd, 2024.
Additional Information
While participants will be asked to submit answers using their smartphones during the discussion, individual identities will remain anonymous. Those without smartphones are also welcome to participate. Please be aware that participants will bear the cost of any communication fees incurred during the event.
