Exciting Updates on the 2025 Sanrio Character Grand Prix Ranking

Recently, Sanrio Co., Ltd. announced the preliminary rankings for their beloved annual event, the 2025 Sanrio Character Grand Prix, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. This significant event highlights the most popular characters among fans and sets the stage for the much-anticipated final results, to be revealed on June 29 at Pacifico Yokohama.

The rankings were derived from votes submitted between April 10 and April 13 through their web platform, along with votes collected from Sanrio shops and retailer cards. This announcement serves as a first glance at potential trends leading up to the final results.

Top Rankings Unveiled

Notably, the character Pom Pom Purin, who secured 4th place last year, has made a remarkable comeback to claim the top spot in this initial ranking. This adorable golden retriever has maintained a presence in the Top 3 for the past nine years, showcasing its lasting popularity. Following closely behind is Cinnamoroll, who has taken the second position, showing the potential for a back-to-back victory after his previous win last year.

The competition remains fierce as Pochacco, Kuromi, and Hello Kitty follow right behind the frontrunners. Meanwhile, Hana Maru Obake, who returned for its second entry after placing 14th previously, kicks off this year’s event by starting in 8th place, marking a significant improvement.

This year is also notable for the characters celebrating milestone anniversaries. My Melody and Little Twin Stars, both reaching their 50th anniversaries, have entered the Top 10, reflecting their enduring appeal and significance in the Sanrio universe. Furthermore, other veteran characters, such as Hangyodon (40 years) and Kuromi (20 years), have also shown strong performances in the rankings.

Special Awards and International Rankings

In an exciting addition, this year marks the introduction of the 40th Anniversary Special Award, presented to the character who ranks 40th. This inaugural award went to Yoshikitty—a charming transformation of Hello Kitty inspired by YOSHIKI from X JAPAN.

Internationally, Pom Pom Purin has shown remarkable popularity, ranking first in nine out of 14 countries, proving its global appeal. Chococat has also claimed the top position in regions such as the USA and Brazil, demonstrating the diverse preferences of fans across the globe.

Upcoming Sanrio Events and Merchandise

Alongside the rankings, Sanrio has excited fans with the announcement of SANRIO FES 2025, set to take place over two days, June 28 and 29, at Pacifico Yokohama. This year’s festival includes special performances and engaging events that will allow fans to interact with their favorite characters. Final results of the 2025 Sanrio Character Grand Prix will be disclosed on the second day, featuring appearances by the top-ranking characters.

Participants eagerly await further updates, with the next ranking announcement scheduled for May 13. Fans can also gear up for this grand event by purchasing new merchandise related to their favorite characters starting April 16, which celebrates the spirit of the Sanrio Character Grand Prix.
