The Exciting Annual Tokyo Poster Contest for Elementary Students Promotes Traffic Safety Awareness

JAF Tokyo Hosts Its Annual Poster Contest for Young Students

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety in the community, the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) Tokyo branch is hosting the third edition of its poster contest aimed at elementary school students. This year's competition will run from July 1 to September 30, 2026, and is open to all students residing or attending school in Tokyo.

The primary goal of this contest is to encourage students to create posters centered around the theme of "accident prevention." The initiative seeks to boost awareness of traffic rules and promote responsible behavior while on the road, particularly during the summer vacation period when outdoor activities increase significantly.

Last year, the second installment of the contest saw remarkable participation, with a record-breaking 231 entries—approximately three times more than the inaugural event. This year, the contest has gained even more traction with the addition of three new sponsoring organizations, bringing the total to 14. This growth signifies a collective commitment to spreading the message of traffic safety in the Tokyo community.

Participants will not only gain valuable experience in expressing their views through art, but all entrants who meet the submission criteria will receive exclusive JAF merchandise. Award winners will additionally receive more substantial prizes, including gift cards and a special collectible model car. To further encourage responsible practices, this year, winning participants will be selected as "JAF Children's Traffic Safety Leaders," a role that entails not only adhering to traffic rules but also spreading awareness about them in their communities. The tenure for these leaders will last for one year, with opportunities to assist at JAF-organized traffic safety events. Details regarding the timing and location of these events will be communicated to winners individually.
