CurePSP Awards Student Fellowships
CurePSP has made strides in supporting future neuroscience researchers with the announcement of nine fellowship recipients under the Urso and Jim Atwood grants. These fellowships are focused on advancing the understanding of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal degeneration (CBD), both significant neurodegenerative diseases.
The Fellowship Grants
The announcement highlights two primary fellowship grants:
- - Urso Student Fellowship Grant: This grant is supported by the Paul and Ruth Urso Memorial Research Fund and will be awarded to six research projects dedicated to investigating various aspects of PSP and CBD, which encompass basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological studies.
- - Jim Atwood Neuroscience Student Fellowship: In its second year, this fellowship supports three undergraduate student projects specifically focusing on PSP or CBD. It is financed by the Jim Atwood Neuroscience Student Fellowship Endowment.
The selected recipients include undergraduates, PhD students, and medical trainees, all of whom will address important research questions concerning tauopathies at leading institutions.
Supporting Future Scientists
Dr. Jennifer Brummet, who serves as the Associate Director of Scientific Affairs and Partnerships at CurePSP, emphasized the organization's commitment to fostering the careers of young investigators. She stated, "CurePSP is honored to support this group of young investigators conducting summer projects that will further our understanding of PSP and CBD. Fostering the careers of future scientists is key to finding treatments and cures for PSP and CBD."
This initiative not only encourages new talent in the field but seeks to establish long-term interest in researching these debilitating diseases. By nurturing the next generation of scientists, CurePSP aims to amplify collective knowledge and ultimately enhance the quality of life for individuals affected by these conditions.
Raising Awareness and Expanding Research Communities
CurePSP's efforts extend beyond merely funding research; they also aim to raise awareness about the impact of PSP and CBD while building a community of dedicated researchers. The organization is committed to making these diseases a greater focus within the scientific community, ensuring that they receive the attention and resources necessary for advanced research.
