In a landmark decision, bus drivers, dispatchers, fuelers, and cleaners working for Transdev in Providence have successfully ratified their inaugural contract with Teamsters Local 251. This breakthrough marks a significant achievement for the 56 members of the union, who have been engaged in rigorous negotiations for over a year. The newly forged three-year agreement encompasses essential provisions such as a notable salary increase, enhanced safety measures, seniority preferences for job bidding, and contributions to a Teamsters retirement plan.

Matthew Taibi, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 251 and Director of the Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division, celebrated the workers’ relentless efforts, stating, "These workers fought tooth and nail to secure a strong first Teamsters contract. Transdev Teamsters remained determined and committed to getting a fair first contract that addressed their needs and concerns. We are grateful for their solidarity throughout this battle; it just goes to show that when Teamsters fight, Teamsters win."

This contract will provide much-needed stability and support for the workers who deliver vital transportation services at key educational institutions such as Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Rhode Island College (RIC). Moreover, Daven Cox, a shuttle driver for Transdev, expressed gratitude for the community's backing during this challenging negotiation phase. The impact of this successful negotiation extends beyond immediate wage increases. The contract also addresses critical issues of safety and worker rights, showcasing the union's commitment to ensuring that their members work in a secure environment while receiving fair compensation for their labor. The strength of solidarity demonstrated by the Teamsters has set a precedent for future negotiations, not only within Transdev but across various industries represented by the Teamsters Union.
