First Mold Transitions Prototype Division to Enhance Production Capacity

First Mold, a leading player in precision plastic part manufacturing and rapid prototyping in China, is making a strategic move to enhance its operational efficiencies. Founded in 2010, First Mold has established itself as a frontrunner in the industry and is now shifting its prototype division from its original location in Dongsheng, just 13.5 kilometers from their newly established Industrial Park in Gangkou. This shift, aimed at addressing productivity inefficiencies, is expected to dramatically enhance the company's operational workflows.

The Need for Reorganization

The current layout has presented significant challenges, particularly related to the lengthy distances technicians must travel between facilities for various production tasks. James Li, the CEO of First Mold, highlights, "Technicians often have to traverse more than 25 kilometers to manage and coordinate production activities. This inevitably results in substantial operational time losses each year." By bringing the prototype division closer to the main production site, First Mold aims to alleviate these issues and streamline operations remarkably.

Significant Operational Enhancements

The relocation will not only reduce travel times but also increase the utilization rate of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to over 90%. This move is projected to create enough space to accommodate new injection molding machines, subsequently boosting production capacity by an estimated 10%. For First Mold's clients, these changes promise faster cycle times and reduced costs, ranging from 5% to 8%.

Strategic Infrastructure Improvements

To facilitate this transition, First Mold has secured a new building of over 64,500 square feet, located a mere 0.8 kilometers from their newly established Industrial Park. This strategic choice allows for the consolidation of more than 60 CNC machines and over 20 3D printing machines that were previously scattered across different facilities. James Li states, "The reallocation is not merely about moving; it's about reorganizing the manufacturing logic. The centralization eliminates team positioning delays and cuts down deployment times by 80%. Our goal is to enhance CNC utilization beyond 90%."

Future Growth and Investments

Additionally, First Mold will be closing its Dongsheng facility while investing in new state-of-the-art equipment from renowned brands such as JSW, GF+, and Haitian. This committed investment aims to increase the monthly output of precision injection-molded parts, further solidifying First Mold's position as an industry leader.
