Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Celebrates National Quality Engineering Awards Success
Recognition of Excellence in Engineering
Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (commonly known as ZPMC) has made headlines as two of their landmark projects have been honored at the 2024–2026 National Quality Engineering Awards. This prestigious recognition was announced by the China Association of Construction Enterprise Management, highlighting ZPMC's critical role in the advancement of engineering quality within the construction sector.
Award-Winning Projects
The first project, the Rudong Offshore Wind Farm located in Jiangsu Province, was awarded the coveted National Quality Engineering Gold Award. With an installed capacity of 800 MW, this offshore wind farm was fully integrated into the power grid in 2021. Remarkably, it generates around 2.4 billion kWh of clean energy annually, which is sufficient to power about one million households. This contribution notably decreases coal usage by approximately 740,000 tons and reduces carbon emissions by around 2 million tons each year. ZPMC was instrumental in constructing the foundation piles, jackets, and topside module for the offshore converter station, which, upon completion, became the world's largest and Asia's first of its kind.
The second project honored was the Taicang Port Phase IV, which received a National Quality Engineering Award. This initiative stands out for implementing a lifecycle structural health monitoring system, a first for high-piled wharf structures. The system adeptly merges monitoring, assessment, and early warning functionalities through building information modeling (BIM), enhancing project coordination and management at every phase, from design and construction to operational maintenance, by utilizing advanced digital tools.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability was a core focus during the planning and execution of the Taicang Port Phase IV project. This site is recognized as the first Yangtze River port project to feature an onshore ballast water treatment facility and a system designed for collecting initial stormwater runoff. Further down the line, all mobile equipment at the terminal employs clean energy technologies, while the addition of solar power generation and hybrid wind-solar lighting significantly curtails energy consumption. The project aims for lowering carbon emissions to levels that dramatically outpace those of similar facilities, and it has been awarded a three-star rating for sustainable construction by the China Association of Construction Enterprise Management.
Looking Ahead
The recognition of ZPMC’s projects in this national competition underscores the company's commitment to engineering excellence and sustainability. These accolades do not merely celebrate the achievements of the past but also set a positive precedent for current and future projects in the construction industry, reflecting a broader shift towards integrating sustainable practices into engineering solutions. With such distinguished projects under its belt, ZPMC is well-positioned to lead in the field of sustainable engineering, paving the way for innovations that benefit both the economy and the environment in the coming years.
