Barbados to Host IDB Invest Sustainability Week 2026
In a major announcement, IDB Invest revealed that the Sustainability Week 2026 (SW26) will be held from May 26 to 28, 2026, in Bridgetown, Barbados. This event marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time the Caribbean is hosting this vital platform focused on mobilizing private investments for resilient projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.
IDB Invest Sustainability Week is designed to assemble investors, businesses, and project sponsors to discuss investment-ready opportunities and practical financing solutions. By connecting capital providers with entrepreneurs, the forum aims to foster the development and financing of projects in critical areas such as resilience, infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and job creation.
Ilan Goldfajn, the President of the IDB Group, emphasized the critical role that multilateral development banks play in mobilizing private capital on a large scale. He stated,
“Through IDB Invest+ and our 'Originate to Share' business model, we aim to mobilize more capital and accelerate implementation by building pipelines, sharing risks, and connecting investors with projects ready for execution.” The inaugural hosting of the Sustainability Week in the Caribbean further underscores the region's growing significance for private investments.
James P. Scriven, CEO of IDB Invest, highlighted the acute interest from investors in sustainable investments. He explained that
“Sustainability Week 2026 offers a unique opportunity to connect capital with impactful projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.” The event is inherently business-focused, providing a high-level platform where sustainability solutions can be transformed into profitable opportunities, generating beneficial outcomes for economies, communities, and the environment.
The choice of Barbados for this forum accentuates the Caribbean's increasing importance as a hub for private investments, particularly in resilient infrastructure. This event has received international recognition, previously awarded the Eventex Award in 2023 and 2025 for its innovative and sustainable design. The most recent Sustainability Week, held in Manaus, Brazil, attracted over 900 in-person attendees, 14,500 online participants, and 46 partner organizations globally.
