A Milestone Achievement for Tennessee Connections Academy
In an inspiring ceremony at Tennessee State University's Kean Hall, Tennessee Connections Academy celebrated the graduation of 336 students from its online school program. This tuition-free public institution caters to students in grades 4 through 12 and provides a unique educational experience tailored to the needs of today’s learners.
The graduating class of 2026 hails from diverse locations across Tennessee, including prominent cities such as Clarksville, Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville. It is remarkable to note that 43% of these graduates are preparing to advance their studies at various colleges and universities. Schools such as Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, Cumberland University, Middle Tennessee State University, the University of Alabama, and Western Kentucky University are among their destinations. Meanwhile, 44% of the graduates are ready to jump straight into the workforce, while others have plans for vocational training, military service, or even a gap year for personal growth.
Dr. Dusty Reed, Executive Director of Tennessee Connections Academy, praised the graduation cohort for their dedication and hard work, stating, "The Class of 2026 has demonstrated remarkable dedication in reaching this milestone. They are a motivated and dynamic group of students, and I look forward to seeing what they achieve next. Their drive and determination have truly prepared them for the exciting opportunities ahead."
The graduation ceremony featured addresses from faculty and highlighted the accomplishments of student leaders, including Valedictorian Angelique Rund and Salutatorian Lily May Clippinger. Lily May shared her insights on the flexibility offered by her online education, which allowed her to complete high school coursework ahead of schedule while also gaining college credits and critical life experiences.
"Tennessee Connections Academy gave me the flexibility to have an education that wasn't limited to a traditional brick-and-mortar school schedule," Lily May expressed. Her impressive resume includes participation in various honors societies, international travel, and internships, all of which have well-prepared her for her future studies in Public Relations at the University of Memphis.
Beyond individual successes, Tennessee Connections Academy emphasizes a comprehensive virtual school experience that keeps students engaged and motivated. The school’s educators focus on creating significant connections with students, ensuring they achieve their maximum potential. The involvement of parents and caregivers is also encouraged, as they serve as Learning Coaches who mentor and guide their children throughout the school day.
To further equip students for their future, Tennessee Connections Academy offers a robust College and Career Readiness program this blends essential academic learning with career-focused pathways. Programs in fields such as IT, business, health sciences, and marketing help students build valuable skills, including leadership, critical thinking, and teamwork. The academy also provides opportunities for career exploration and networking that enhance student confidence and clarity regarding their future goals.
