Spiber Unveils Over 100 Innovative Fabrics at Milano Unica 2025, Highlighting Sustainable Textiles

Spiber Showcases Sustainable Innovation in Fabrics at Milano Unica 2025

Spiber, a leader in protein fiber technology, will make its inaugural appearance at the prestigious Milan textile fair, Milano Unica, from February 4-6, 2025. This debut showcases the company’s commitment to sustainable and high-performance fabrics, featuring over 100 brand-new materials, including a remarkable array of suiting fabrics designed in collaboration with Takisada-Nagoya, a respected Japanese fiber distributor.

Instituting a fresh perspective in the fabric industry, Spiber aims to redefine the standards of textile production with its innovative Brewed Protein™ fibers. These materials promise exceptional luxury, soft texture, and sustainability, distinguishing themselves from traditional textiles like silk or cashmere. The presented suiting fabrics consist of a blend of 10%–50% Brewed Protein™ fiber combined with other materials, including wool and polyester, making them suitable for contemporary suit design.

Ryuichi Tanaka, Manager of the Menswear Fabric Section at Takisada-Nagoya, explains, “Brewed Protein™ fiber offers a unique diameter and compatibility with worsted fabrics, leading to a luxurious feel that modern consumers are seeking. Our objective is to not only create exceptional fabrics for the suit market but to expand into various material applications worldwide.”

In addition to the suiting line, Spiber will also present 40 new blended fabrics featuring Brewed Protein™ content ranging from 6% to 100%. Collaborating with another renowned textile manufacturer, A-girls, Spiber emphasizes the importance of artisanal craftsmanship. A-girls is noted for its mastery of circular-knit techniques, enhancing the softness and comfort of the fabrics offered.

Tomohiro Yamashita, President of A-GIRL'S CO., LTD, likens Brewed Protein™ to a revolutionary spice in cooking, emphasizing its potential to elevate existing fabric concepts and cater to innovative projects yet to be imagined. He expresses profound respect for Spiber’s technological advancements and shares a vision of future collaborations crossing into domains like medicine and food.

Visitors to Milano Unica are invited to experience Spiber's innovations firsthand at Booth JOB A12, while purchases will be facilitated through Takisada-Nagoya (JOB B09/11) and A-girls (JOB A13). This event marks an exciting milestone for Spiber, which has dedicated over 15 years to research and develop protein materials, culminating in the successful launch of its first protein polymer production plant in 2021.

Over the years, Spiber's partnerships with leading textile manufacturers worldwide have established a strong supply chain, enabling the application of Brewed Protein™ fibers in reputable brands like Goldwin and Issey Miyake, among others.

With its extensive applications, Brewed Protein™ fiber stands out as a groundbreaking solution for a sustainable future in textiles. Spiber’s relentless pursuit of innovation ensures a more sustainable society through advanced production techniques, with a mission to minimize environmental footprints while enhancing the quality of life.
