Free Community Asthma Screening Event in Detroit

On Saturday, September 19, the Allergy & Asthma Network's Trusted Messengers team will team up with the Detroit Health Department and the Detroit Asthma Collaborative to offer a vital community event focused on asthma awareness and education. This initiative is especially significant as asthma affects numerous individuals in Detroit, particularly in underserved neighborhoods grappling with health and environmental challenges.

Event Details

The neighborhood is invited to attend this free event at the Kemeny Recreation Center, located at 2260 S. Fort Street, Detroit, MI 48217, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Community members who attend will discover practical strategies for managing asthma, engage with healthcare professionals, and learn about local resources that can provide support for individuals and families affected by asthma.

Adeela Abbasi, the Director of Community Outreach and Health Equity at Allergy & Asthma Network, highlighted the mission behind the event, stating, "Asthma continues to disproportionately impact communities across Detroit, especially neighborhoods facing longstanding environmental and health inequities. Trusted Messengers is built on the belief that by working alongside community leaders, we can equip families with the necessary tools to maintain their health."

This community event will provide valuable resources, including:
