Rayssa Leal Makes History at 2025 SLS Super Crown Championships

Rayssa Leal Makes Skateboarding History in São Paulo

The 2025 SLS Super Crown World Championships were electrifying, marking a significant milestone in the world of skateboarding as Monster Energy's very own Rayssa Leal clinched first place in the Women's Skateboard Street category. This remarkable achievement, celebrated in São Paulo, Brazil, adds to Leal's legacy and cements her status as a dominant force in the sport.

This year’s competition, which took place from December 6-7, showcased the best talents in skateboarding, with Leal exhibiting an exceptional performance that led to her fourth consecutive championship title. At just 17 years old, from Imperatriz, Brazil, she has redefined what it means to be a champion in the sport, making history as the first to win four titles in the history of the SLS Super Crown events.

The final event unfolded at the Ginasio do Ibirapuera sports arena, a venue perfectly designed by California Skateparks to showcase the athletes' skills. During the Run section, Leal started strong, executing a flawless line that included impressive tricks such as a frontside bluntslide on the big rail and a backside Smith grind on the same rail. Her inaugural attempt scored a remarkable 8.3 points.

In the Single Trick section, she continued to build momentum, performing a standout backside tailslide for 7.5 points, and capped her score by landing a kickflip backside lipslide on the big rail, which earned an impressive 8.7 points. Leal finished her run with a gap to backside lipslide that added another 8.1 points to her total. Ultimately, she secured the championship with a stellar total score of 32.6 points.

“I'm really happy to be here again in São Paulo, to be with my family. This means a lot for me. I don't even have words for this!” she exclaimed, visibly moved by her triumph.

Rayssa's Strongest Competitor:
Coming in a close second was Liz Akama, a 16-year-old skateboarder from Miyagi, Japan. Akama faced some challenges during her lines but managed to execute technical moves that demonstrated her prowess, such as a Barley grind followed by a successful backside lipslide, which contributed to her total score of 26.4 points. This event marked her significant potential as she consistently rises through the ranks.

In the Men's division, renowned skateboarder Nyjah Huston, aged 31, nabbed third place. The Laguna Beach native started with explosive momentum, scoring high marks through an array of complex tricks. His total score of 27.5 points showcased his skill and experience, further solidifying his standing in this competitive arena.

The 2025 SLS Super Crown World Championships not only highlighted individual heroics but also the camaraderie and sportsmanship among the skateboarders. The event, initiated by industry pro Rob Dyrdek in 2010 with the support of Monster Energy, stands as the pinnacle of competitive street skating, pairing impressive athleticism with the thrill of live audience interaction.

Throughout the competition, over the course of the SLS World Tour, the athletes demonstrated resilience through various events hosted in Miami and Paris, culminating in this grand finale in Brazil. With participants ranked from prior competitions, the excitement was palpable as top names dropped into the arena to vie for the prestigious titles.

The future of skateboarding looks exceptionally bright with rising stars like Leal and Akama leading the charge. Monster Energy’s commitment to pushing the envelope in extreme sports ensures that these athletes will continue to receive the support and opportunities they need to reach new heights in their careers.
