Waseda University Students Launch Innovative Financial Education Conference for Peers in Tokyo

Student Investment Conference 2025: Bridging Finance and Youth

In a groundbreaking initiative, students from Waseda University and other prominent universities hosted the Student Investment Conference 2025 (SIC2025) at the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Held from August 12 to 13, 2025, this conference aimed to educate both high school and university students about investment basics and strategies.

The SIC2025 revolved around the theme of "Starting Investment from Scratch", catering to beginners who are eager to dive into the world of finance. The organizers developed an engaging program that included lectures, hands-on experiences, and interactive discussions, all designed to ensure participants could eventually start their own investment journeys.

A Unique Blend of Learning Formats

The conference featured a mix of traditional lectures and interactive elements. Notable industry experts joined panel discussions alongside student investors, creating a stimulating environment for learning. The enriching content included workshops on portfolio management, investment AI development, and fundamental analysis using Shikiho (Japanese corporate profiles).

Engaging Panel Discussions

The conference kicked off with panel discussions designed to resonate with students' interests, covering topics like "Optimal Investment Strategies for People in Their 20s" and "How to Choose Recommended Investment Books". Esteemed figures such as Hiroshi Okazaki from the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Takeshi Mitsuzuka from Wiburu Securities participated, providing insights that catered to the youth audience.

Yuta Kerai, a four-year student at Waseda University and head organizer of the conference, actively engaged participants in discussions about the effective use of their time and money as students. This approach fostered a vibrant learning atmosphere.

Interactive Portfolio Management Simulation

One of the most innovative aspects of the conference was a team-based Portfolio Manager Game. This simulation allowed participants to apply knowledge gained during the event. Divided into teams, students strategized portfolio allocations among ten selected sectors over eight rounds, making decisions based on real-time performance forecasts of various companies. This hands-on experience offered both excitement and practical learning about market strategies and investment dynamics.

Collaboration with Student Startups

Furthermore, participants collaborated with startup teams on the development and operation of investment AI agents, a project conducted with Yozora Finance. This involved creating prompts for the AI agents based on collected data, allowing students to learn about AI-driven investment strategies while also fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship.

Fundamental Analysis Workshop

Capping off the conference was a fundamental analysis workshop that utilized Shikiho. Guided by editorial experts from Toyo Keizai, students performed data screening on 200 selected companies, ultimately choosing one for in-depth analysis and presentation. This final activity allowed participants to synthesize their newly acquired knowledge, providing a practical learning experience under the mentorship of industry analysts.
