PSEG Long Island Secures Contract Extension and New Leadership

Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) has announced significant developments with its Long Island operations. On December 30, 2025, the firm revealed that the New York State Comptroller has granted final approval for the extension of its operations services agreement with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). This extension will allow PSEG Long Island to continue managing the electric grid on Long Island and in the Rockaways until December 31, 2030.

Following this announcement, PSEG also named Scott Jennings as the new President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PSEG Long Island, effective January 5, 2026. Jennings will succeed David Lyons, who has been serving as the interim president and COO since May 2022. PSEG expressed gratitude for Lyons' 45 years of dedicated service and congratulated Jennings on his new appointment.

The contract, which had been awarded by the LIPA Board of Trustees on September 25, signifies a commitment to maintain energy services and infrastructure in the region. PSEG has overseen the electric grid for LIPA since 2014, marking a substantial period of operational development and customer service improvements.

Scott Jennings brings a wealth of experience to his new role. With over 27 years of service at PSEG, he has held various leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President of Finance, Planning, and Strategy. In this role, Jennings managed business plans and investments focused on enhancing reliability and public service goals. His familiarity with PSEG Long Island's structure and operations is expected to benefit their strategic objectives moving forward.

Ralph LaRossa, PSEG's chair, president, and CEO, expressed confidence that Jennings will effectively lead PSEG Long Island through this new chapter, working closely with LIPA to ensure the delivery of safe and reliable energy at affordable prices to the residents of Long Island and the Rockaways. LaRossa highlighted Jennings' strong leadership, sound business judgment, and comprehensive understanding of the utility sector as critical attributes that will guide PSEG Long Island in achieving operational excellence.

Jennings expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating that he looks forward to collaborating with LIPA and the workforce to continue the positive trajectory the company has established over the past twelve years. He aims to make strategic investments to enhance the reliability of the electric grid while prioritizing customer service and affordability.

John Latka has been appointed as the Senior Vice President of Electric Operations at PSEG, working alongside Jennings to ensure effective operations. With over 40 years of utility operations experience, Latka is well-equipped to manage electric infrastructure, system reliability, and modern updating initiatives. His leadership has garnered multiple awards for PSEG, including recognitions for outstanding system resiliency.

Since initiating operations, PSEG Long Island has seen a notable rise in customer satisfaction. According to the J.D. Power 2025 Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study, PSEG Long Island ranked first among business customers in the East Large Segment. This success culminates an impressive journey, transforming PSEG from the lowest performing utility in the region to a leader in customer satisfaction.

The organization has also made considerable improvements in reliability and safety metrics. The frequency of power outages has decreased by 26%, and the duration of outages has dropped by 47% since 2014. Moreover, PSEG Long Island has attained the lowest rate of complaints in New York State for electric and combined utilities nine out of the past eleven years.

PSEG stands as a regulated infrastructure entity focused on paving a path toward a clean energy future. They are committed to enhancing energy reliability and sustainability, aiming to make energy usage safer and more economical.

As PSEG Long Island embarks on this new chapter under Jennings' leadership, it aims to continue its upward trajectory, establishing itself as a cornerstone of reliable energy service for Long Island and the Rockaways. With a strong focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence, the future looks bright for PSEG Long Island as it strives to meet the growing demands of its community.
