Lincoln Memorial University's Bold Legal Move



In a significant legal maneuver, Lincoln Memorial University (LMU), home to the Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine, has taken action against the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, aims to address what LMU describes as anticompetitive practices that prevent the establishment of new veterinary schools, ultimately restricting the number of veterinarians available to care for America's pets and large farm animals.

With around 67% of U.S. households owning pets, a staggering 87 million people rely on veterinary services for their beloved animals. However, as the demand for veterinary care continues to rise, so does the need for trained professionals. Unfortunately, the AVMA's current accreditation policies are believed to obstruct the entry of new veterinary colleges, reducing competition and the overall number of veterinarians entering the market.
