MSA Safety Introduces the A1X Vacuum Anchor
In a significant advancement for aircraft maintenance, MSA Safety has unveiled the A1X™, its latest iteration of the acclaimed WinGrip® vacuum anchor system. This innovative tool is tailored to enhance safety, efficiency, and versatility in aviation upkeep. By providing a secure, non-invasive anchor point, A1X allows maintenance technicians to perform their duties on aircraft wings and fuselages without causing any damage.
Enhanced Design for Modern Needs
The A1X vacuum anchor is a lighter and more compact version of the proven All-In-One (AIO) WinGrip® system. Weighing in at only 7 kg—35% lighter than its predecessor—and featuring a reduced diameter of 350 mm, the A1X is not only easier to transport but also simplifies handling during operations. This redesign was driven by direct feedback from users, ensuring that the A1X meets the practical demands faced by maintenance crews in the field.
Employing rechargeable air or gas bottles, the A1X creates the necessary suction force for reliable anchor points. The optimized pneumatic system allows for twice as many repositioning operations per gas bottle, minimizing the need for extra bottles and streamlining workflow in time-sensitive environments.
Broad Compatibility
One of the standout features of the A1X is its extensive compatibility with various aircraft, including smaller jets and commercial airliners that were previously incompatible with WinGrip technology. Now approved by major manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing, technicians can confidently integrate the A1X into their routine maintenance protocols.
Safe Functionality in Hazardous Environments
Designed for performance without electronic components, the A1X is safe to use in environments where fuel vapors may be present, such as during refueling operations. Furthermore, the lack of electrical components eliminates ignition risks. An integrated alarm system provides real-time updates on the anchor's status, and the tool maintains its integrity even if airflow is interrupted.
Self-sufficient due to its built-in air reservoir, the A1X operates independently, requiring no external air supply or fixed infrastructure. This flexibility ensures it can be effectively utilized in hangars, on tarmacs, or in remote locations, making it suitable for a broad range of environmental conditions, whether at high altitudes or in extreme weather.
Optimized for Standardized Inspections
The A1X has been specifically optimized for Line and A/B checks in aircraft maintenance. Its portability allows a single technician to deploy and reposition anchoring points independently, streamlining efficiency and reducing the need for a dedicated safety line infrastructure or additional personnel. For larger C and D checks that necessitate multiple technicians, the traditional WinGrip systems, equipped with complete lifelines, remain available.

The A1X package includes two anchor points: one serves as the main vacuum anchor unit, while the other, referred to as the 'flying' point, is used for triangular anchor configurations. Each kit can be customized to cater to specific client requirements.
