Eagle-N: A Breakthrough in Automotive AI Accelerators



In an impressive announcement made on December 12, 2024, during the CES2025 event, BOS Semiconductors and Tenstorrent unveiled the Eagle-N, marking a significant advancement in automotive technology. This innovative AI accelerator chiplet System on Chip (SoC) promises to transform automotive applications, with specific enhancements geared towards Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and In-vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems.

Eagle-N utilizes the powerful Tensix NPU core from Tenstorrent, designed specifically for automotive needs. This cutting-edge chiplet not only delivers robust AI performance but also operates with remarkable energy efficiency, making it a game-changer for the automotive sector.

Features and Performance


The Eagle-N is capable of achieving up to 250 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) NPU performance, supported by high-speed interfaces like PCIe gen5 and UCIe. These features allow it to serve as an add-on for existing ADAS and IVI systems by enhancing their AI capabilities without the need for a complete overhaul. Manufacturers can easily integrate Eagle-N into their current technology, resulting in upgraded performance metrics that can drive the development of autonomous vehicles and create immersive in-cabin experiences.

Moreover, this chiplet's versatility is highlighted by its compatibility with various ADAS and IVI processors currently available in the market. OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers can simply implement the Eagle-N on top of existing systems to significantly improve their AI performance while maintaining competitive pricing and power efficiency.

A Step Forward with Eagle-A


Additionally, BOS is poised to expand its offerings with the Eagle-A, a one-chip ADAS SoC that will complement the Eagle-N. Together, these products form a new chiplet SoC family specifically designed to cater to the broad spectrum of ADAS functions and diverse autonomous driving applications.

Tenstorrent’s Technology Explained


Tenstorrent’s innovation goes beyond the Eagle-N itself. Each of the Tensix NPU cores has been meticulously crafted, featuring an array math unit for tensor operations, a SIMD unit for performing vector operations, and a sophisticated Network-on-Chip (NoC) that enables efficient data transfer between cores and chips. The inclusion of five “baby RISC-V” processors aids in directing this NoC, alongside a substantial memory capacity of up to 1.5 MB of SRAM.
