Enhancing Business Resilience Through Fan Communities: Insights from the NAVICUS Symposium

On February 17, 2026, Kazuya Takeuchi, the CEO of NAVICUS, participated in a symposium hosted by Meta Japan (formerly Facebook Japan), titled "Rethinking Information Literacy in Uncertain Times - Initiatives Required by Mature Individuals and Organizations to Build a Foundation of Trust Together." Takeuchi presented key strategies on how fan communities can enhance digital resilience for businesses in this unpredictable era.

The Risks of Silence and the Power of Community

In an age where social media can instantly elevate or tarnish a brand, companies face many risks, including backlash from users and misinformation. Takeuchi highlighted that not communicating is not a guaranteed safety net. A company that does not actively manage its social media presence risks losing control during a crisis when criticism or misinformation may arise. If a company's official channels are weak, negative narratives can spiral out of control.

Conversely, companies that invest time in building relationships with their fans may witness an organic self-correction phenomenon during crises. These businesses benefit from users who proactively share accurate information and dispel rumors, stemming from pre-established trust within the community. Such occurrences are not merely coincidental; they result from consistent engagement and communication with followers.

The Five Steps to Building Fan Relationships

During the latter part of his presentation, Takeuchi outlined five crucial steps to nurture fan relationships:
1. Listening
2. Conversing
3. Activating
4. Supporting
5. Integrating

The most important step is "Listening." This initial phase involves continuously monitoring user-generated content (UGC) on social media platforms, checking comments and direct messages, analyzing keywords, and utilizing surveys to capture the voice of consumers. Establishing trust as a foundation is vital.

It is also crucial to recognize that there are both "active fans," who share openly, and "latent fans," who enjoy the products but remain silent. Campaigns that aim to bring these latent fans to the forefront can significantly enhance a company's resilience.

Panel Discussion on Information Literacy

Following the presentation, a panel discussion addressed the theme of "Information Literacy Required by Mature Organizations and Individuals." Takeuchi emphasized the importance of continuous listening to end-users and understanding how a company and its services are perceived as foundational to organizational information literacy.
