Genetec Donates Relief Funds for Recovery from Noto Peninsula Earthquake to Ishikawa Prefecture

Genetec's Contribution to Noto Peninsula Earthquake Recovery

On January 1, 2024, a significant earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula, devastating local communities. In response, Genetec, a technology company based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has taken action by donating relief funds to Ishikawa Prefecture. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to everyone affected by this disaster, and this contribution aims to support recovery efforts while demonstrating our commitment to social responsibility.

The donation ceremony took place on April 28, 2025, at the Ishikawa Prefectural Treasury. Present at the event were Yusuke Tanaka, head of Genetec's GPS division, and Takako Matsumoto, head of the Ishikawa Treasury. Their presence underscored the serious intent of the company to support the region not only through financial means but also by sharing relevant technology and expertise.

Purpose of the Fund Donation Ceremony

Rather than simply contributing funds, the intention behind this donation ceremony was to clarify Genetec's commitment to disaster prevention and community support. The GPS division's leadership and development engineers attended to reinforce the company's dedication to building safer communities through their products.

As part of this initiative, Genetec highlighted their disaster prevention application, Cocodayo, designed to automatically share the location of family members during emergencies. This app has been integrated into the company's social contribution strategy, ensuring that technology plays a significant role in safeguarding lives during crises.

Cocodayo: The Disaster Prevention App

Since its launch in September 2015, Cocodayo has evolved significantly. Drawing on lessons learned from past earthquakes, including the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake, Genetec developed this innovative application to protect as many lives as possible during disasters. Cocodayo provides automated notifications regarding the whereabouts of family members when a disaster occurs, ensuring that information is shared before communication networks become unreliable.

As of February 2025, Cocodayo has achieved impressive milestones, with a total of 1.65 million downloads and a near-perfect retention rate of 98%. These achievements highlight not only the app's user-friendliness but also the trust placed in it by communities.

The technology underpinning Cocodayo has been patented in 13 countries worldwide, which paves the way for potential international expansion in future rollouts. This strategic outlook indicates Genetec's commitment to bringing their safety technologies to a global audience.

Ongoing Commitment to CSR and Community Support

Genetec is dedicated to continuously enhancing and expanding their offerings, including the Cocodayo service, while actively promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives across the organization. The emphasis on community aid through innovative technology showcases Genetec's role as a responsible corporate citizen.
