Yukakina Selected for Team Japan at the Asian Games

The world of esports continues to flourish in Japan, and a notable highlight of this development is the selection of Yukakina from Arneb with WoG (AWG) as a candidate for Team Japan at the 20th Asian Games. Scheduled for 2026 in Aichi and Nagoya, this monumental event will also see esports included as an official medal sport for the second time following the successful integration during the previous event in Hangzhou.

Yukakina has made a name for herself in the gaming community as a member of AWG since May 2023, where she serves as a Hunter in the popular game, "Identity V - Asian Games Version." This game features an asymmetrical multiplayer format involving one Hunter against four Survivors, providing an engaging and strategic experience for both players and spectators. The upcoming Asian Games will feature 11 esports titles as debut competitions, reflecting a growing acceptance and recognition of esports as a legitimate sporting discipline.

The selection of Yukakina was based on her exemplary performance during the fall IJL official tournament of 2025, where her skills and match results were evaluated for her potential this summer. Her presence on Team Japan reflects not only her individual prowess but also the dedication and capabilities of AWG. Under the leadership of Yuudai Mukai, the organization has fostered many promising talents in the world of competitive gaming.

With a nickname that endears her to teammates and fans alike—"Kina-chan" or "Kina-bou"—she has become a beloved figure within the team. Her recent comments capture the spirit of excitement and nervousness that comes with competing on such a grand stage: "I feel nervous playing at such a big venue, but more than that, I’m thrilled to battle on this stage. I want to take a deep breath, collect myself, and bring forth everything I have built up!"

As the Asian Games approach, the anticipation is high. Scheduled to occur from September 23 to October 2, 2026, this event will mark the first time in 32 years the Asian Games have been held in Japan, with 45 nations participating. The eSports segment will take place at Aichi Sky Expo in Nagoya, featuring games such as Street Fighter 6 and Naraka: Bladepoint along with a variety of titles that will illustrate the vibrant esports culture emerging from Asia.

As fans and competitors gear up for the games, Yukakina’s journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the incredible talent and dedication within the Japanese esports scene. With her heart set on achieving great success, eyes across the globe will undoubtedly be watching as she represents her country and team on this prestigious platform.
