Innovative Collaboration: Punching Block Collection by Monoya and BENEX

The Punching Block Collection: A Fusion of Art and Design

In a remarkable collaboration aimed at exploring the potential of industrial materials, Japan's Benex Co., Ltd., known for its precision sheet metal processing, has unveiled its latest creation, the Punching Block collection. Developed alongside Kyoto-based design studio Monoya, this innovative collection emphasizes the interplay between material and viewer perception, transforming functionality into aesthetic experience.

The EETAL Project

Benex has launched the EETAL project, designed to push the boundaries of sheet metal usage through creative collaborations with designers. Since its inception in 2021, EETAL has been a platform for innovative exploration within the realm of industrial design. The Punching Block collection is a testament to this vision, as it transforms mundane materials into captivating artistic forms.

Characteristics of the Collection

The Punching Block collection features three-dimensional objects made primarily from perforated metal, a material traditionally used for its functionality—lightweight properties and ventilation. However, these sculptures play with ambiguity, inviting viewers to engage with them from different angles, allowing them to perceive varied impressions based on light and perspective.

Monoya's design philosophy shines through this collection, as they reflect on the value of objects and their meanings, which are not fixed but rather arise from the contexts in which they are viewed. Each item in the collection seeks to create a new dialogue with its surroundings, offering a unique perspective on the aesthetics of common industrial materials.
