Ava Community Energy Expands Greener Electricity to Stockton and Lathrop Residents

Ava Community Energy Brings Affordable Electricity to Stockton and Lathrop

Ava Community Energy (Ava), recognized as a leading provider of sustainable and cost-effective electricity, is set to expand its services to the cities of Stockton and Lathrop starting in April. This exciting development is expected to provide a fresh electricity alternative for hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses in the area.

In a collaborative decision, the city councils of Stockton and Lathrop have chosen Ava as the automatic electricity generation provider for all their local accounts. The utilities will still be managed by Pacific Gas and Electric (PGE), which will handle electricity delivery and customer billing. However, Ava will become the primary source of the electricity itself.

With the imminent launch in April, over 120,000 electricity accounts will transition to Ava Community Energy. Customers will automatically be enrolled in the "Bright Choice" program, ensuring a guaranteed 5% savings on electricity generation compared to PGE's rates. What's more, Ava sources its electricity from over 50% renewable resources, primarily wind and solar power, reinforcing its strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

"We are thrilled to introduce cleaner and more affordable energy choices to the communities of Stockton and Lathrop," stated Howard Chang, CEO of Ava Community Energy. Since its inception in 2018 as a not-for-profit public agency, Ava has successfully saved over 1.7 million customers across Alameda County and Tracy a staggering $140 million through lower rates and annual credits on their bills.

In addition to the significant cost savings and a focus on sustainable practices, customers will gain access to a variety of innovative programs aimed at promoting energy efficiency, enhancing resilience, and advancing transportation electrification. In 2026, Ava also plans to extend its services to the unincorporated regions of San Joaquin County.

For those who prefer to remain with PGE for their electricity generation services, opting out of Ava's programs is an available choice. However, given Ava's proven track record in savings and sustainable energy initiatives, many customers may find that switching to Ava is in their best interest.

In summary, Ava Community Energy not only aims to provide an economical alternative to traditional electricity but also enhances local contributions toward climate action. As part of the broader movement within California's community choice aggregation (CCA) programs, Ava is determined to provide energy choices while aiding in the fulfillment of local and state climate goals.
