Healthy Zoo: A Playful Approach to Reducing Children's Anxiety During Medical Visits
Healthy Zoo: A Playful Approach to Medical Checkups
The daunting world of medical checkups can be especially intimidating for young children. Many kids enter clinics facing new sounds, unfamiliar sights, and unknown procedures that can ignite their fears even before they step into the examination room. Recognizing this challenge, the initiative called Healthy Zoo aims to transform those anxieties into a positive experience through creative play.
Developed by Reimagine Well in collaboration with CalArts and Child's Play Charity, Healthy Zoo functions as a free, interactive digital platform accessible on smartphones and tablets. Its goal is to equip children with coping mechanisms for medical environments by inviting them into a colorful virtual zoo filled with friendly animal characters.

Healthy Zoo innovatively incorporates this idea by letting children engage with adorable animals that need their help. Tasks like measuring blood pressure, checking height, or looking into a throat become fun challenges in this safe virtual environment, allowing children to familiarize themselves with the activities they will encounter during their own checkups.
