LifeNet Health's Matrion® Study Receives Prestigious Award for Diabetic Foot Ulcers

LifeNet Health Wins Prestigious Award for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Study

LifeNet Health, a prominent player in the realm of regenerative medicine, has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Best Randomized Controlled Trial Award at the 2026 CAMPs Awards. This accolade was awarded for their groundbreaking study on Matrion®, a treatment designed for challenging diabetic foot ulcers, which often lead to severe complications such as infections and amputations. The award ceremony took place during the Wound Care Summit held from March 6-7, 2026, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

A Groundbreaking Study

The awarded study, titled "Efficacy of a full-thickness decellularized placental membrane allograft compared to standard of care in diabetic foot ulcers a prospective, randomized controlled trial," highlights the effectiveness of Matrion® in treating patients suffering from treatment-resistant diabetic foot ulcers. It is noteworthy that these ulcers persist for an average of over 10 months, with 96% of the participants having failed previous treatments, showcasing the urgent need for innovative solutions.

Matrion® has shown promising results, with findings indicating a 78% enhancement in wound closure at the 12-week mark compared to conventional treatment options. It also featured a remarkable 33% reduction in the median healing time and a 93% lower rate of serious adverse events when compared to the standard of care — translating to a rate of 2% versus 29% respectively.

Entries In The Award

The CAMPs Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in the advancement of cellular, acellular, and matrix-like products (CAMPs) through meticulous clinical research. The award underscores the significance of randomized controlled trials in the field of advanced wound care, a sector where such rigorous studies remain relatively rare. LifeNet Health’s commitment to validating biologics through comprehensive clinical evidence amplifies the credibility of its innovative treatment solutions.

Dr. Alexander Reyzelman, who led this pivotal study, emphasized the complexity of the wounds treated. He noted that by focusing on patients who have already exhausted traditional and advanced therapies, they were able to demonstrate significant advancements not only in healing but also in safety for those at high risk of severe complications, including infection and amputation.

The Role of Matrion®

Matrion® is engineered to be a full-thickness decellularized placental membrane allograft, which preserves the native extracellular matrix while carefully removing cellular components. This allows the product to effectively foster cellular migration, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling — all critical processes for healing difficult wounds. Developed using LifeNet Health's proprietary processing technologies, Matrion® exemplifies the company's extensive expertise in ensuring tissue safety and quality while advancing regenerative science.

Focus on Evidence-Based Innovation

Rony Thomas, President and CEO of LifeNet Health, spoke to the importance of the award, affirming their commitment to innovating biologic solutions that are grounded in scientific proof. With this recognition in hand, LifeNet Health aims to continue improving patient outcomes significantly while establishing a new standard in wound care management.

As the company forges ahead in expanding its portfolio of clinically validated regenerative solutions, it remains dedicated to applying scientific discoveries that can result in substantial impacts for patients, ultimately leading to superior healing outcomes across the globe.
