CIIE: A Platform for Global Cooperation and Inclusive Development Amidst Rising Uncertainty

CIIE: A Catalyst for Global Development

In the face of increasing global uncertainty and anti-globalization sentiments, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) stands out as a vital platform for fostering openness and cooperation. Held annually in Shanghai, this expo brings together businesses and governments from across the globe to promote trade and investment.

Background and Significance

On June 25, 2025, a pivotal event organized by the UN in Geneva explored how CIIE contributes to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. This event underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting inclusive growth. Stakeholders discussed the role of CIIE in opening doors to the Chinese market, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Prominent companies like dōTERRA and Warmpaca shared their success stories during this event. dōTERRA, which has been associated with Guizhou since 2018 through the CIIE, is focused on leveraging innovation to boost the value of traditional Chinese plants, thereby enhancing the income of local farmers. Meanwhile, Warmpaca, known for creating handmade alpaca wool products, marked its entry into the Chinese market during the first CIIE. By collaborating with over 1,000 families, Warmpaca has successfully expanded both in China and internationally while generating jobs and enhancing local community capabilities.

Preparation for Upcoming Events

The preparations for the upcoming CIIE expositions are already underway, marked by a matchmaking event held in Chongqing on May 22, where nearly 40 exhibitors gathered with over 110 local buyers. This event laid the foundation for deeper cooperation as the expo approaches. Over 280,000 square meters of exhibition space has already been reserved for this year's event. The current setup has been redesigned to highlight innovation, advanced technologies, and top-tier services.

Further enhancing this momentum is the upcoming China-Central Asia summit, which aims to stimulate exchanges and cooperation. Central Asian countries, frequent participants in CIIE, have strengthened their ties with China through this pivotal platform. For example, in the previous CIIE, Kazakhstani companies showcased a record number of high-quality products to the Chinese market, demonstrating the increasing importance of this collaboration.

The eighth edition of CIIE is expected to see an influx of exhibitors, professional buyers, and visitors from all sectors. The event will serve as a preferential venue for dialogue about open economies and inclusive globalization, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in today’s challenging environment.
