Doosan Robotics Accelerates Transformation into a Leading AI Robot Solutions Provider
Doosan Robotics: Aiming for AI-Robotics Leadership
In a bold move, Doosan Robotics is intensifying its efforts to transform into a top-tier provider of intelligent robot solutions. This ambitious initiative encompasses a diverse growth strategy that includes international acquisitions, talent recruitment, and organizational restructuring, all aimed at securing a leading foothold in the burgeoning field of physical AI.
On July 28, 2025, the board of Doosan Robotics approved the acquisition of an 89.59% stake in ONExia, a U.S.-based automation engineering firm. This transaction is valued at approximately $25.9 million and marks a significant investment in enhancing Doosan’s capabilities in the robotics sector.
What is ONExia?
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Pennsylvania, ONExia has made its mark as a system integrator specializing in robotics and automation. The company provides end-to-end automation services—ranging from system design and manufacturing to implementation—across various industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and packaging.
In recent years, ONExia has focused on the development of collaborative robotic systems tailored specifically for End-of-Line (EOL) processes, such as palletizing, box assembly, and packaging. This innovation has led to a steady annual revenue growth of around 30%, reflecting the strong market demand for such solutions in North America.
Accelerating Global Competitiveness
The acquisition of ONExia is seen as a vital step in accelerating Doosan Robotics' global competitiveness within the intelligent robotics market. By shifting its business model from a hardware-centric approach to a more integrated platform that emphasizes AI and software-based robotics solutions, Doosan aims to leverage ONExia's advanced technical capabilities and extensive experience in developing industry-specific robotic systems. Moreover, the deal brings with it 25 years' worth of accumulated automation data and project execution knowledge, which are expected to enhance Doosan's AI capabilities and accelerate the development of solutions in data-driven intelligence contexts.
In tandem with this acquisition, Doosan Robotics is also increasing its investments in internal research and development. They are in the final stages of recruiting experts in robotics research and development, AI, software development, quality assurance, and corporate strategy. The company has started restructuring its R&D department to place a greater focus on AI, software, and humanoid technologies. Additionally, a new FE-Innovation Center is set to be completed in the third quarter of this year, creating an optimal environment for development.
Future Aspirations
Kevin (Minpyo) Kim, the CEO of Doosan Robotics, emphasized the importance of the ONExia acquisition, stating, "This acquisition is a significant milestone as we take concrete steps to enhance our global presence, internalize AI technologies, and develop future-proof solutions. The expertise and established market position of ONExia in the U.S. will create strong synergies."
He further remarked, "To position ourselves as the world's leading provider of intelligent robotics and advance the future of physical AI, we will continue to invest in research and development, strategic mergers and acquisitions, as well as talent acquisition."
Through these strategic moves, Doosan Robotics is not just looking to enhance its product offerings but is actively carving out a path to leadership in the global AI robotics market. This multifaceted approach characterizes the company's commitment to innovation and excellence in technology, paving the way for a future driven by intelligent automation.
