Supporting Reina Sawamura's Journey to the Olympics
Reina Sawamura, a 17-year-old alpine skier from Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, is diving headfirst into a crowdfunding project titled "From Nagano to the World: 17-Year-Old Alpine Skier Reina Sawamura's Challenge!" This initiative, facilitated by Spportunity Co., Ltd. based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, officially launches today, July 24th. The goal is to raise funds necessary for Reina's participation in international competitions, particularly in Europe, as she strives to achieve her Olympic dream.
A Journey Begun in Childhood
Reina's journey began at the age of three when she first stepped onto a pair of skis. By the time she reached the third grade, she was competing seriously. Her tenacity and skill quickly paid off; she clinched first place in the national junior high school skiing competition and went on to represent Japan in the U16 category at the Asia Children’s Games, where she won two gold medals. Additionally, her performance at the international competition held in Val d'Isère, France, saw her achieve the highest-ever placement for a Japanese competitor in slalom, finishing in second place.
In her sophomore year of high school, she maintained her impressive track record by winning both the giant slalom and overall championships at the National High School Ski Championships. Furthermore, she racked up two victories in the senior-level FIS races, adding to her growing portfolio of achievements at both a national and international level.
The Path to the National Team
This season marks a significant milestone for Reina, as she has been selected as a designated athlete for the All-Japan Alpine Ski National Team, competing in the senior category. With her sights firmly set on Olympic participation in the future, Reina is gearing up for challenging competitions across Europe. However, the financial burden of representing her country abroad, predominantly borne by the athletes themselves, poses a significant challenge.
To take a vital step towards realizing her dreams, Reina has decided to embark on this crowdfunding campaign. "I hope to have everyone who believes in my dreams support me through this initiative. Your encouragement and contributions would mean the world to me!" she wrote, sharing her heartfelt message with potential supporters.
