Cool Intelligence Introduces Ultra-Lightweight Solar Panels from Israel to Japan

Cool Intelligence Unveils Innovative Solar Solution in Japan

Cool Intelligence Co., Ltd., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is excited to announce the introduction of Apollo Power's ultra-light flexible solar panels to the Japanese market. These cutting-edge panels can be installed on roofs with weight limitations, making them a valuable option for buildings with specialized structures. With Japan's new regulations for mandatory solar installations on larger facilities set for 2026, this product meets the growing demand for energy cost reduction and renewable energy solutions.

Partnership with Apollo Power

Cool Intelligence has signed a distribution agreement with Israeli company SolarPaint Ltd. to bring Apollo Power's innovative solar technology to Japan. The Apollo Power solar panels have already gained recognition by major global brands like Amazon, Audi, and Volkswagen. Notably, Apollo has established a stable supply chain by launching the world's first mass production facility dedicated to flexible solar panels.

This agreement positions Cool Intelligence as a primary provider of ultra-light flexible solar panels in Japan, focusing on promoting solar installations on roofs that are typically weight-constrained, thus contributing to a more sustainable society through wider renewable energy adoption.

Background

The Japanese government is pushing initiatives to attain a decarbonized society, with plans to mandate solar panel installations on certain commercial and public buildings starting in 2026. This directive will impact around 12,000 businesses that consume over 1,500 kiloliters of energy annually, likely accelerating the growth of rooftop solar installations.

One of the main challenges has been that conventional solar panels are too heavy for many structures. While perovskite solar panels show promise due to their lightness and flexibility, practical implementation is still in the works, delaying widespread adoption. Additionally, the rise in electricity costs has increased the demand among companies for self-consumption solar energy solutions to mitigate expenses.

In this context, Cool Intelligence’s ultra-light solar panels provide an immediate solution for roof installations subject to weight restrictions while bridging the gap until perovskite technology becomes broadly applicable. The company aims to support both compliance with regulations and assist businesses in reducing power costs through these innovative solutions.

Product Features and Benefits

Apollo Power's flexible solar panels weigh only 2.9 kg/m², about one-sixth the weight of conventional glass panels that typically weigh between 15-20 kg/m². This ultra-light design allows installation on roofs of aging buildings, temporary structures, and where weight limitations apply. Their flexibility also means they can conform to curved and specialized roof shapes, opening up solar possibilities for factories, warehouses, and commercial facilities that previously could not utilize solar energy.

The lightweight aspect of the panels not only offers enhanced safety during installation but also reduces construction time, directly addressing compliance with upcoming roof installation mandates while significantly contributing to energy cost reduction.

Future Prospects

With this distribution agreement, Apollo Power and Cool Intelligence aim to capitalize on the Japanese market for ultra-light flexible solar technology. The introduction of these panels will significantly broaden the types of buildings suitable for solar installations. By providing an alternative for building owners and developers of structures like factories, warehouses, and temporary buildings that previously had to forgo solar energy generation due to panel weight issues, the project aims to accelerate the deployment of solar energy in previously untapped markets.

In doing so, this initiative will facilitate the development of new markets and enhance the installed generation capacity, positively impacting the transition toward a decarbonized society.

Upcoming Exhibition

Cool Intelligence will be exhibiting at the 24th SMART ENERGY WEEK in Makuhari Messe from September 17-19, 2025. This event is organized by RX Japan and showcases cutting-edge technologies in solar power, hydrogen fuel cells, wind energy, smart grids, and secondary batteries on a global scale.

Visitors to the exhibition will be the first to experience the ultra-light flexible solar panels from Apollo Power in Japan, with live demonstrations highlighting their flexibility, lightweight design, and easy installation options. Companies considering implementation for roofs with weight restrictions will find this product an innovative solution. We invite everyone to stop by booth number E19-29 and explore the future possibilities of solar energy. Media interviews will also be available—please contact us in advance if interested.
