Umpqua Bank, a well-known subsidiary of Columbia Banking System, Inc., has made a significant announcement regarding its leadership team. Effective June 2, 2025, Judi Giem will take on the crucial role of Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer. This appointment comes at a time when the bank is poised for substantial growth following its anticipated acquisition of Pacific Premier Bank, a well-established bank with assets of $18 billion located in Irvine, California. With this acquisition, Umpqua Bank is set to expand its workforce to around 6,500 employees, spread across eight western states, and manage assets totaling a remarkable $70 billion.

Judi Giem, who is joining Umpqua Bank, brings over 20 years of extensive experience in human resource management. She is celebrated for her ability to improve HR and cultural programs during periods of transition and rapid expansion. Clint Stein, the CEO of Umpqua Bank, expressed confidence in Giem’s capabilities, highlighting her perfect fit for the bank as it evolves and grows in the financial landscape.

Prior to her new role, Giem served as Chief Human Resource Officer at Tri-Counties Bank, leading all HR functions and actively participating in the executive leadership team. Her experience also includes oversight of talent management at Banner Bank, where she played a crucial role in fostering talent acquisition and cultural cohesion through various mergers and acquisitions. Giem has also been instrumental in organizational planning and executing human capital programs to boost employee engagement, focusing on creating an inclusive and positive workplace culture.

Giem holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Development from Whitworth University, along with a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. Her academic background further strengthens her qualifications to lead human resources at Umpqua Bank.
