Exploring the Vibrant Charm of Hainan at World Expo 2025

Hainan Week at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025

On May 23, 2025, Hainan Week kicked off within the China Pavilion at the ongoing Osaka-Kansai Expo. This event is centered on the theme of "Green Development, Openness, and Sharing," aiming to showcase the charm and vitality of Hainan Province as an international free trade port to the world from both cultural and economic perspectives.

The opening ceremony brought together around 120 attendees, including Vice President Li Qingshuang of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (representing the China Pavilion), Minister Counsellor Luo Xiaomei from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Japan, and Xue Jian, the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Osaka, alongside representatives from the Hainan government and businesses, as well as officials from the Japanese government. They introduced the latest initiatives and future prospects of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Diverse performances showcasing Hainan’s natural beauty and ethnic culture captivated attendees. The opening act, a musical performance titled "Fuzhou Fu," conveyed messages of blessing and friendship, followed by a piece titled "Tropical Rainforest Paradise," which presented a fantastical depiction of human coexistence with nature. The audience was urged to participate in a lively dance segment featuring traditional music and dance from the Li (Lee) community. A fashion show highlighting the region’s traditional costumes culminated in a vivid display that merged historical and contemporary aesthetics, drawing enthusiastic applause from spectators.

A special exhibition titled "Tech and Memory of Nanming: A Bloom of Culture" accompanied the events, highlighting intangible cultural heritage. Artifacts such as traditional dyeing and weaving techniques, bamboo instruments, and coconut carvings were on display. Visitors also had the opportunity to engage in live demonstrations and interactive booths hosted by ten skilled artisans, providing a direct connection to the deep culture of Hainan.

Hainan Week is set to conclude on May 25 and is accompanied by related events in Tokyo, Osaka, and Hyogo, where investment opportunities and economic exchanges relating to Hainan Province will be extensively showcased. This is a spotlight on the present and future of Hainan as a focal point for global exchanges.
