Marconi Technologies Demonstrates Breakthrough in Troposcatter Communications Trials in Sweden
Marconi Technologies Achieves Milestone in Troposcatter Communications Trials
Marconi Technologies has made substantial advancements in the realm of tactical communication with the successful completion of extensive troposcatter communications trials in Sweden. Conducted in association with Försvarets Materielverk (FMV), the Swedish Armed Forces' defense materiel authority, this evaluation took place from June 1 to June 5 and highlighted the capabilities of the Archer troposcatter solution over a challenging 75-kilometer link.
The trials, held between the cities of Enköping and Arboga, demonstrated the Archer system's ability to maintain robust connectivity characterized by high throughput and stability. This achievement is particularly significant as it indicates a solution capable of operating effectively in environments where previous attempts at stable, high-throughput connectivity had fallen short.
Marconi's Archer system stands out for its unique features, including automatic antenna alignment and versatility in deployment, making it operationally advantageous. The compact design of the Archer system allows for quick transport and deployment, essential for military operations that may demand rapid response capabilities in diverse terrains including deserts, mountains, and polar regions.
During these trials, Marconi Technologies showcased a throughput that was recorded at five to six times higher than measurements taken on the same route in the past. Such a leap in performance addresses the critical needs of the Swedish Armed Forces for effective tactical troposcatter communications that can be easily integrated with existing mobile network infrastructure.
According to Alain Cohen, CEO of Marconi Technologies, “Our focus from the outset has been on building a system that is not only capable but also user-friendly. The ability for a two-person team to establish a beyond-line-of-sight link in under 20 minutes, even in challenging terrain, represents a paradigm shift in operational capabilities, especially in environments where satellite communications may be compromised.”
Archer: A Tactical Advantage
Archer is designed to provide high-throughput, low-latency communication over distances exceeding 200 kilometers without reliance on satellites or fixed infrastructure. This tactical troposcatter terminal emphasizes ease of use with features such as toolless assembly and automatic alignment, enabling setup in less than 20 minutes. Such operational capabilities make Archer a strong contender in military communications, particularly when rapid deployment is essential.
Recently, Archer received recognition as a solution suitable for secure communications by the U.S. Army, affirming its design and operational efficiency in real-world applications. The successful trials in Sweden not only validate the technical prowess of the Archer system but also bolster Marconi Technologies' reputation in developing advanced communication systems for NATO and allied forces across the globe.
