A. O. Smith Corporation Welcomes Carrie L. Anderson as New CFO
On May 19, 2026, A. O. Smith Corporation, a prominent player in the water heating and treatment sector, announced a significant change in its executive leadership. The company revealed that Carrie L. Anderson will take over as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective July 1. This transition comes as Charles T. Lauber, who has dedicated over 26 years to various leadership roles within the company, prepares for retirement.
Transition of Leadership
Carrie Anderson is set to bring a wealth of experience to her new role. Previously, she held the position of Executive Vice President and CFO at The Campbell's Company, demonstrating a solid track record in financial leadership within global industrial and manufacturing companies. In addition to her time at Campbell, Anderson has served in senior finance roles at Integra LifeSciences, Dover Corporation, and Delphi Corporation. She began her professional journey as an engineer with General Motors, showcasing her strong technical background along with her financial expertise.
Anderson's academic credentials are equally impressive; she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Ball State University. Currently, she also serves on the board of directors for Embecta Corp. and is a member of its audit and nominating governance committees.
In remarks about Anderson’s appointment, Steve Shafer, A. O. Smith's CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the experience she brings to the company. He noted her extensive background in complex industrial and manufacturing environments and emphasized that her skills in strategic execution and corporate development will be essential for A. O. Smith as it pursues growth and transformation objectives.
A Tribute to Charles T. Lauber
As Carrie Anderson steps into her new role, Charles T. Lauber will remain with the company until September 30 to facilitate a smooth transition. Lauber has held multiple critical positions within A. O. Smith, beginning his tenure as the corporate director of tax and audit in December 1999. Over the years, he ascended through the ranks, becoming VP and Controller of the Electrical Products Company division in 2001, followed by a role as VP of Global Finance for the same division in 2004. Eventually, he was appointed to senior vice president and group chief financial officer for the Water Products Company division in 2006, before assuming his current position as CFO in May 2019.
Shafer expressed gratitude for Lauber's leadership over the years, remarking on his contribution to strengthening the company's foothold in water technology and steering it through substantial change. Shafer wished Lauber all the best as he embarks on his well-deserved retirement.
