The Second Hometown Tax Gourmet Award Kicks Off to Celebrate Unique Local Foods

Hometown Tax Gourmet Award 2026: Celebrating Culinary Diversity

The Hometown Tax Gourmet Award, an initiative co-hosted by Island Co., Ltd. and LOCUS BRiDGE, is set to celebrate unique local food offerings through its second edition. Scheduled for November 12, 2026, in Tokyo, this award seeks to showcase products that not only delight the palate but also tell a compelling story about their regional origin.

A Platform for Regional Revitalization

The award, which launched last year, focuses exclusively on food-related return gifts offered through the Hometown Tax system in Japan, fundamentally aimed at promoting local revitalization efforts. The purpose of this annual event is to recognize and honor return gifts that have notably appealing appearance, taste, and a fascinating backstory—essentially, products worth talking about.

As of June 1 this year, entries have been accepted, followed by an initial screening and a final tasting to determine the award recipients.

A Meaningful Recognition of Local Producers

The partnership between Island Co., Ltd., which runs Japan's largest food delivery review site, Otoriyose Net, and LOCUS BRiDGE, are committed to supporting local communities engaged in sustainable development. Island Co., Ltd. has been promoting regional products for over two decades and believes that the enthusiasm of producers behind Hometown Tax offerings parallels that of gourmet food deliveries.

By collaborating with LOCUS BRiDGE, known for effectively championing local revitalization efforts, the award aims to extend its outreach, emphasizing not just taste and quality but also the heartfelt stories behind each product and its makers.
