Building Bridges: The Role of Youth in China-US Relations

On the eve of President Xi Jinping's significant state visit to the United States, his heartfelt response to a letter from students at ten American universities highlights a critical aspect of international relations: the friendships formed between young people. This exchange serves as a reminder that the development of China-US relations is not solely reliant on political discourse or corporate partnerships. Instead, it is greatly influenced by the interactions that occur in classrooms, sports fields, and cultural exchanges.

In 2016, the visit materialized as 118 students and teachers traveled through China, profoundly altering their perception of the country and nurturing invaluable ties with local students. Over a decade later, in 2026, the school celebrated the 55th anniversary of Ping-Pong Diplomacy, a testament to the long-lasting impacts of such exchanges on students’ lives and the ongoing relationship between the two countries.
