TETRA Technologies Teams Up with EOG Resources for Innovative Water Re-Use Pilot Project

TETRA Technologies Partners with EOG Resources in Water Re-Use Initiative

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — On March 27, 2025, TETRA Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TTI) took an exciting step towards sustainable water management by announcing a new pilot project in collaboration with EOG Resources, Inc. This partnership centers around TETRA’s Oasis Total Desalination Solution (TDS), aimed at treating produced water from oil and gas operations for re-use and mineral extraction.

Innovative Water Treatment Technology

The TETRA Oasis TDS is designed as a comprehensive water treatment and desalination solution. This system integrates proprietary treatment processes alongside exclusive membrane technologies, which effectively address a variety of produced water qualities originating from different oil and gas basins. The Oasis solution has already proven its worth in field applications by consistently achieving water quality that either meets or surpasses relevant regulatory standards, all while being cost-effective. This effectiveness makes it ideal for various re-use scenarios, including surface irrigation and industrial applications.

Brady Murphy, the President and CEO of TETRA, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "We have worked closely with EOG Resources over the past few years, including our initial field pilot program two years ago in South Texas, where we successfully treated produced water. Notably, we achieved a 92% recovery rate of desalinated water with total dissolved solids levels ranging from 40 parts per million (ppm) to 200 ppm, which are more stringent than typical municipal drinking water standards."

Upcoming Pilot Project in the Permian Basin

The partnership is gearing up for a major pilot project focused on processing produced water sourced from the Permian Basin, set to commence in the first half of 2025. This undertaking includes a specialized study to evaluate the growth of rangeland grass within a controlled greenhouse environment, utilizing water processed through TETRA Oasis TDS. This innovative experiment aims to showcase the potential of treated produced water to contribute positively to agricultural practices, highlighting its versatility and sustainability.
