Discover Nighttime Splendor at TOKYO Night & Light
Starting on November 1, 2025, the projection mapping titled
'水の都 江戸・外濠 (City of Water: Edo Outer Moat)' will take center stage at the renowned
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. This captivating project, produced by
HITOHATA, INC. under the umbrella of
TOKYO Night & Light, promises to transform the evenings of Tokyo into mesmerizing stories told through light and sound.
The aim of TOKYO Night & Light is to create a vibrant night-time tourist attraction in the city, utilizing one of Tokyo's architectural landmarks—the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building—as its canvas. This ongoing project is recognized by the
Guinness World Records™ as the largest projection mapping display in a permanent installation, signifying its monumental scale and artistic ambition.
The Artistic Vision
The upcoming projection mapping,
'City of Water: Edo Outer Moat,' is part of the
Edo Outer Moat Purification Project, aiming to revive Tokyo's historical identity as the 'City of Water.' In about four minutes of stunning visuals, the display intertwines memories of Edo's waterways with visions of Tokyo's future, creating a tapestry of new narratives. The artwork captures the ethereal beauty of the landscapes depicted in ukiyo-e woodblock prints, featuring waterfalls, rivers, and seasonal flowers blooming in a fairy-tale-like world. Visitors can expect a dazzling artistic experience that resonates with the interplay of urban life and nature, tradition and innovation.
