Special 'Tachikawa Ninth' Corner at Taimeido
As anticipation builds for the
1st Tachikawa Ninth concert, set to take place on
December 22, 2025, a unique initiative has emerged from
Taimeido Bookstore, a beloved establishment serving the Tachikawa community since 1950. This special corner, dedicated to Beethoven's masterpiece 'Symphony No. 9', invites visitors to engage with music through a curated selection of books.
Organized by the community group
Raise the STREAM, and featuring the amateur orchestra
Musica Promenade, this project aims to deepen people's connection to music and literature in a collaborative effort to enrich local culture. The special 'Tachikawa Ninth' section of Taimeido will remain open until
December 30, 2025, giving the community ample opportunity to explore literature related to Beethoven and the joy of music.
Curation with Purpose
All books in this section have been thoughtfully selected by conductor
Naoshi Kawata, who leads Musica Promenade. His selection integrates accessible narratives, adaptations into films, and manga that open the doors to classical music for even the uninitiated. Among the collection, beautifully crafted storybooks with sound mechanisms offer a multisensory experience that delights both young and adult audiences, making them perfect gifts for any occasion.
A Unique Shopping Experience
Yamauchi Miyo, the store owner, noted the exciting connections emerging during this project's duration. Taimeido not only sells concert tickets but also actively engages with patrons. One such moment was when a staff member, also a performer, invited a customer to join their choir for the concert, resulting in spontaneous participation that added to the night’s magic. Such interactions perfectly encapsulate the spirit of the event, making it a truly memorable experience for Taimeido and the community.
Voices from the Stage
In the lead-up to the concert, many enthusiastic participants took the stage. One performer shared, 'I was motivated by a strong desire to sing! However, tackling German lyrics feels daunting. Despite the challenges, I’m focusing on enjoying the music through practice!' This sentiment reflects a common theme among participants, emphasizing enjoyment and community over perfection.
