New Haven School Choice Expo: Empowering Families with Educational Opportunities and Resources

New Haven School Choice Expo: An Educational Fair for Families

On Saturday, February 1, the New Haven School Choice Expo will take place at Wilbur Cross High School. This event, organized by New Haven Public Schools and Choose a School, is a fantastic opportunity for families to explore diverse educational options available within their community. With over a thousand participants expected, the expo aims to simplify the school selection process for parents and children alike.

From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, families will be able to meet representatives from various public magnet programs and local charter schools. These interactions will provide critical insights into the available K-12 education options. The event is structured to address common questions that parents may have while helping them gather essential resources for making informed decisions regarding their children’s education.

Festive Atmosphere and Family-Friendly Activities

In addition to being an informative gathering, the school expo aims to create a festive and enjoyable experience for attendees. Families can partake in activities such as photo booths, balloon artists, and DJ entertainment alongside their educational exploration. To enhance the family-friendly aspect, complimentary snacks will be provided, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Marquelle Middleton, the director of school choice and enrollment at New Haven Public Schools, emphasized the value of this exposition. “The New Haven School Choice Expo provides an invaluable opportunity for families to connect with schools, inquire, and explore the many educational options that are available to them,” said Middleton. “We are excited to help parents navigate the search for the right school for their children.”

A Collaborative Effort to Promote School Choice

The New Haven School Fair is proudly hosted by Choose A School and New Haven Public Schools in collaboration with the National School Choice Awareness Foundation (NSCAF). This expo forms part of the larger National School Choice Week, celebrated nationwide from January 26 to February 1, which showcases the importance of school choice and the variety of educational options that families can consider.

The timing of this expo is critical as it takes place just before the school choice application period opens. Organizers are keen to support families in the essential steps of the school choice process, including exploration, application, acceptance, and registration, ensuring they are well-prepared to make timely decisions.
