Celebrating Ten Years of TeacherLists and Kids In Need Foundation's Partnership for Education

Ten Years of Impact: TeacherLists and Kids In Need Foundation

In a remarkable milestone, TeacherLists, the recognized platform for school supply lists managed by School Family Media, celebrates its tenth year of partnership with the Kids In Need Foundation (KINF). This collaboration aims to support under-resourced schools by providing essential supplies to students and teachers who need them the most.

As the current school year wraps up, TeacherLists and KINF are gearing up for an initiative that will ensure students from underfunded schools are properly equipped for learning from the very first day of the new school year and throughout the year. By encouraging teachers, schools, and district administrators to upload their official school supply lists, they can also endorse TeacherLists' recommended brands like Crayola, Paper Mate, and Kleenex. Each time a school opts for these trusted brands, TeacherLists donates $1 to KINF, amplifying their mission to deliver free supplies directly to schools in need.

Charles Field, CEO of School Family Media, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: "TeacherLists was created to simplify the back-to-school process for communities and to support those facing the biggest obstacles in acquiring essential supplies. By just uploading their lists and choosing our partner brands, schools can help unlock real funding for classrooms that desperately need it."

The partnership's goal is clear: to ensure that every child has access to the supplies necessary to learn and succeed. Despite this noble objective, the ongoing needs of many communities highlight a significant challenge; a staggering 58% of students arrive on the first day without all required supplies and lack materials at home for homework. The gap persists, with 100% of surveyed teachers reporting that they use their own money to supply their classrooms. Alarmingly, donated supplies typically run out before the end of the school year, with only 4% lasting until the final months.

The insights from the KINF Teacher Insight Survey reveal that the demand for school supplies stretches well beyond the initial weeks of the academic calendar. As three-quarters of classroom supplies deplete before winter break, both organizations wish to ensure that teachers and students are supported on a day-to-day basis.

Annie Nelson Stanoch, Vice President of Impact Partnerships at Kids In Need Foundation, comments on the impact of this partnership: "Teachers consistently go above and beyond for their students, often addressing gaps with their own resources. By collaborating, we can guarantee that educators have the tools they need while simultaneously providing students with a complete learning experience from day one until the very end of the school year."

Kids In Need Foundation stands out as a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting schools where over 70% of students qualify for free or reduced-cost meals through the National School Lunch Program. KINF has crafted a practical, equitable, and scalable solution that focuses on both dignity and accessibility for the schools it serves, promoting a lasting impact on student education.

As districts approach the 2025-2026 school year, TeacherLists is proactively encouraging educators and administrators to:
  • - Upload or update their classroom supply lists on TeacherLists,
  • - Opt into Teacher-Trusted brands when prompted, and
  • - Share their TeacherLists links with families to facilitate a smoother back-to-school shopping experience.

By utilizing the Teacher-Trusted brands option, every school that uploads its list not only eases its own back-to-school processes but also supports Kids In Need Foundation in providing critical supplies to those in most need.
