FCL Launches FTR-L1 Relay for AI Server Power Supplies

FCL Components Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has recently introduced engineering samples of the FTR-L1 relay series, specifically designed for automatic switches in AI server power supplies. As AI technologies continue to advance, the demand for reliable and efficient power sources has become increasingly critical.

In AI server systems, the power supply unit (PSU) plays a vital role in providing stable power to high-performance hardware, such as AI accelerators and GPUs. However, power interruptions generated by PSUs are one of the leading causes of system failures in modern IT infrastructures, which can severely impact business operations. To mitigate these risks, ensuring multiple independent power pathways (redundancy) has become more essential than ever.

The FTR-L1 series from FCL Components is designed to facilitate swift transitions in AI server power units, thereby contributing to service continuity and enabling planned maintenance of power supplies. This relay is also suitable for uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), and various power sources, expanding its applicability across several sectors.

The FTR-L1 series consists of two models: the FTR-L1, rated for 25A, and the FTR-L1R, which is capable of handling 40A. They feature a contact configuration of 1a+1b, ideal for switching AC power sources. As AI servers are pushing for enhanced performance while consuming significant amounts of power, it is crucial that the relays operate with low power consumption.

Notably, the FTR-L1 series employs a latching design, which reduces power usage from the driving coil. Additionally, this relay complies with the IEC 62368-1 safety standard for information and communication equipment as well as audio and video devices, ensuring a safe operational environment with a wide 4.5mm contact gap and compatibility with high altitudes (up to 5000m).

Regarding mass production, FCL Components plans to manufacture the FTR-L1 relays in Malaysia, thereby reducing supply chain risks associated with customs policies and other international trade issues, ensuring a more stable supply to their clients.

Currently, FCL Components is accepting requests for engineering samples (ES), with detailed inquiries encouraged for those interested. The schedule for mass production and sales prices is yet to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
