Youth Demand Action on Biodiversity at COP17
As world leaders convene for the crucial COP17 summit in Armenia from October 19 to 30, a striking wave of concern from young individuals regarding biodiversity loss has surfaced. According to a revealing international study released by KidsRights, a children's rights organization, more than 60% of youths aged 13 to 29 report increased anxiety about biodiversity compared to three years ago. This research illustrates a growing recognition among the younger generation of the interconnectedness of their lives with the natural world.
Importantly, half of the respondents aged 18 and older acknowledge that biodiversity loss is influencing their significant life decisions, including the choice of whether to have children. These findings underscore the urgency with which young people are perceiving environmental issues and their willingness to engage with these challenges.
