In a significant step towards enhancing urban mobility, Luup Inc., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, launched a micro-mobility sharing service in Onojo City, Fukuoka on September 1, 2025, at 10 AM. The introduction of the service follows a cooperation agreement with the city, aiming to ease transportation challenges and improve access to local attractions. With an initial setup of 18 ports and a fleet of 40 vehicles, residents and visitors can now enjoy eco-friendly travel options.

Background of Luup

Luup's mission is clear: to create an infrastructure that transforms urban landscapes into more accessible, station-like environments. Since 2020, the company has been deploying its micro-mobility sharing service, LUUP, across multiple locations in Japan. By offering compact, electric, and one-person transportation options, Luup aims to establish effective first and last-mile travel solutions. As a pioneer in its field, Luup has seen substantial growth, boasting over 14,800 ports and over 5 million app downloads, solidifying its status as one of Japan’s largest micro-mobility providers. The service has expanded to 21 prefectures and encompasses 62 cities and towns, with Onojo being home to the most extensive network of ports in the Fukuoka area.

Community Engagement and Safety Initiatives

On the launch day, Luup hosted a safety training event in collaboration with Onojo City. Residents participated in a workshop that covered essential traffic rules and safe riding practices for electric scooters and bicycles, complete with a hands-on experience. Luup ensures that whenever it enters a new area, it conducts awareness events to educate the public about transportation rules and usage protocols.
