33rd Japan Specialized Newspaper Photography Contest
The Japan Specialized Newspaper Association, led by President Tomoko Sekita, is currently accepting submissions for the esteemed
33rd Japan Specialized Newspaper Photography Contest. This event, which is backed by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, also presents the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award. The deadline for entries is
August 31. Participants are encouraged to capture images of everyday scenery, cherished moments from daily life, or breathtaking experiences from their travels. The aim is to express creativity freely and participate with ease.
About the Contest
This photography contest is designed to enhance photography skills across various sectors of society. It plays a crucial role in promoting understanding of specialized newspapers through awards presented during the annual
Japan Specialized Newspaper Festival, which typically coincides with Newspaper Week in the fall.
Entry Guidelines
Eligibility:
1. Amateur photographers, employees of member companies, avid readers of specialized newspapers, and the general public are welcome to participate.

2. Participants can choose any subject matter.
Specifications:
3. Submissions must be printed in
A4 size. For digital camera photos, a minimum resolution of
8 megapixels is recommended.
Submission Rules:
4. Each participant may submit a maximum of
five photos. For photo series, a maximum of
three images will count as one entry.
5. Photos must:
- Be taken after
September 1, 2023 (works previously published in member newspapers are acceptable).
- Not have been submitted to other photography contests.
- Avoid heavy editing or manipulation (no composite images).
- Not be returned after submission.
- Provided digitally by the award-winning participants for potential use by the association (exhibitions, newsletters, publicity).
- Not be withdrawn after the announcement of winners.

6. Participants must include the following ten details on the back of each submitted photo:
1. Name (in phonetic spelling)
2. Age
3. Gender
4. Address
5. Phone number
6. Email address
7. Date of capture
8. Title (up to 15 characters)
9. Source of information about the contest (or name of the member newspaper)
10. Camera used
For photo series, please indicate the order of presentation.

1. Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (1 winner, certificate & prize).
2. President's Award of the Japan Specialized Newspaper Association (1 winner, certificate & prize).
3. Chairman's Award (1 winner, certificate & prize).
4. Special Awards from member companies (1 winner, certificate & prize).
5. Outstanding Works (several winners, certificate & commemorative gifts).
Announcement:
Winners will be notified in late September 2024 and their names will also be published on the association’s website.
Award Ceremony:
The awards will be presented on
October 20, 2024, during the
79th Newspaper Week and the
Japan Specialized Newspaper Festival at the Imperial Hotel.
