Linyi City in Shandong Province Aims to Establish an International Logistics Hub

Linyi's Ambitious Plans for an International Logistics Hub

In an effort to establish itself as a key player in global commerce, Linyi City, located in Shandong Province, China, is actively working towards building an international logistics and trading center. The city recently hosted the 3rd Linyi Trade City International Sourcing Conference for Belt and Road Cooperation on October 10, attracting over 2,000 international buyers from 99 countries and regions. This initiative signifies Linyi's commitment to becoming a major hub for trade and logistics on the Belt and Road initiative, continuing to strengthen economic partnerships across borders.

Linyi is often referred to as the "Logistics Capital of China," given its robust infrastructure and strategic location. The city boasts a plethora of logistics services, making it one of the most notable national centers for business services. Key features contributing to this reputation include:

  • - Extensive Logistics Network: Linyi hosts more than 136 specialized wholesale markets and has over 63,700 shops and 46,000 businesses, employing about one million people engaged in commercial logistics. This network is well-integrated with road, rail, maritime, and air transport systems, enhancing its operational efficiency.
  • - Diverse Product Range: Covering essential production means and daily living necessities, Linyi's commercial products span 27 categories, totaling over six million varieties.

The city's commercial area has made remarkable advancements in logistics, becoming a destination for various product types and a vital link between suppliers and consumers, both domestically and internationally. Linyi's commercial hub initiated operations years ago and has evolved into a significant center for logistics, supported by integrated networks available throughout China, boasting 22 logistics parks and over 3,000 internal delivery routes. The logistics costs here are approximately 30% less than the national average, making it an attractive option for businesses.

Economic Growth and Future Prospects

Linyi's commerce is on an upward trajectory. In 2024, the transaction volume within the commercial center reached 660 billion yuan, with its total logistics volume exceeding one trillion yuan. Additionally, import and export volumes were recorded at 114.6 billion yuan. The surge in international dealings demonstrates the city's vitality in foreign trade as it actively draws in international merchants while simultaneously encouraging local businesses to explore overseas markets.

In the initial eight months of 2025 alone, 476 companies from Linyi contributed to an import-export volume of 10.267 billion yuan, marking a 58.5% increase year-on-year. This growth highlights the city's ambition to promote an open trade spirit and collaborative growth among regional partners.

Challenges and Opportunities

While Linyi is already recognized for its logistics capabilities, the city faces the challenge of ensuring sustainable growth amid increasing global competition. The future of Linyi will rely on continuous improvement in its logistics efficiency, broadening international relationships, and embracing innovative technologies and practices that can facilitate trade further.

With the opening of this international logistics and trading center, Linyi aims not only to enhance its local economy but also to strengthen its position on the global stage as a logistics powerhouse. By fostering an environment of international cooperation and sustainable development, Linyi is well on its way to becoming a central player in the Belt and Road Initiative, paving the way for more prosperous trade relations in the future.
