The Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission (MSCRC) is excited to announce that it is now accepting Requests for Applications (RFAs) for its upcoming funding cycle, set for July 2025. Researchers and institutions have until
July 9, 2025, to submit their applications. This funding opportunity is a cornerstone of efforts to foster groundbreaking research and development in the field of regenerative medicine within the state of Maryland.
Funding Scope
The July 2025 funding cycle covers a wide array of grant programs, which include but are not limited to:
- - Early-stage basic research
- - Translational research efforts
- - Clinical trials
- - Manufacturing advancements
This initiative is not just limited to Maryland-based institutions; entities from outside the state can also apply, as long as the research conducted is performed within Maryland. Moreover, collaborative projects between public and private sectors are particularly encouraged and may receive supplemental funding to accelerate the transition of research findings into life-saving therapies.
Commitment to Innovation
Ruchika Nijhara, Ph.D., the executive director of the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund, emphasized the unwavering commitment to supporting Maryland's leading stem cell scientists and companies. She stated, "Despite ongoing uncertainties in federal funding, our dedication to advancing innovative therapies continues undeterred. We are thankful for the support from Maryland's administration and the General Assembly, which plays an integral role in our mission."
Rachel Brewster, Ph.D., chair of the Commission, echoed this sentiment by highlighting the broader impact of these funding opportunities on developing life-changing therapies for various medical needs. "Investing in innovative science and fostering collaboration will not only help expand the scope of stem cell research but also enable Maryland's biotech community to thrive, benefitting the entire region."
To date, the MSCRF has funded over
700 research projects, committed more than
$230 million, and, as of May 2025, allocated over
$18 million to 52 promising projects across different stages of technological development. This reinforces Maryland's reputation as a leading state for research and innovation in the realm of regenerative medicine.
