MN24 Leads the Charge in Supporting Living Organ Donors in the Workplace
Mobile Network 24 Supports Living Donor Employees
Mobile Network 24 (MN24) has made a significant commitment to support its living donor employees by joining the Living Donor Circle of Excellence. This initiative, driven by the American Society of Transplantation (AST), acknowledges organizations that provide supportive policies for employees who choose to become living organ donors.
Michael Lollo, MN24's Chief Strategy Officer, expressed his motivation for this initiative, sharing his personal experience. As a living kidney donor supported by his employer during his own donation ordeal in 2018, Lollo wanted to ensure that MN24 employees receive similar encouragement and assistance while undergoing the donation process. He advocates for companies to eliminate barriers for employees wishing to donate organs and believes that it’s essential for businesses to create an environment that fosters altruism.
Living organ donation plays a critical role in the healthcare system. Currently, over 100,000 people are awaiting kidney or liver transplants, with living donors contributing significantly to these needs. In fact, statistics from 2021 indicate that living donors were responsible for 24% of kidney transplants and 6% of liver transplants performed that year. Unfortunately, many potential donors hesitate due to financial constraints, as the recovery period for living organ donation can range from four to six weeks. During this time, employees often utilize vacation days or face unpaid leave, which serves as a deterrent for many.
Dr. John Gill, founder of the Living Donor Circle of Excellence, emphasizes the impact of supporting living organ donors. He stated, “Living donors are heroes amongst us; their gift is life-saving for patients in need of a kidney or liver transplant.” By supporting living organ donors, MN24 not only aids individuals in need of life-saving transplants but also contributes to building stronger, interconnected communities as these patients can continue to engage in family life and contribute to society post-transplant.
With MN24’s leadership in this initiative, the hope is to inspire other employers to adopt similar policies that support living organ donation. By fostering an environment where employees feel valued and supported during this important decision, more lives can be saved, and the burden on the healthcare system can be alleviated.
As MN24 specializes in managing transplant logistics, the company collaborates closely with transplant centers, organ procurement organizations, and medical professionals to streamline and enhance the organ donation and transplant process, ensuring the efficient transportation of organs to those in desperate need. This commitment to saving lives extends beyond support for employees, encompassing the entire framework that facilitates organ donation and transplantation.
